Comparing Two of the Most Popular Wigs from Follea by Daniel Alain
For many women suffering from hair loss, choosing to buy a wig can feel empowering. But we know it’s not easy. We understand that deciding to wear a wig and finding just the right one for you, is a big commitment and a serious investment.
You might have purchased wigs in the past and haven’t been entirely satisfied with the way they fit or look. Maybe you have a wig sitting untouched in a box, or perhaps you wear a wig that doesn’t feel like you.
Here at Daniel Alain we’ve spent over 20 years handcrafting the most beautiful, natural-looking human hair wigs. We have heard from countless women who have regained their lives by wearing our wigs. We’ve witnessed women shed the insecurities that often accompany hair loss, and we’re proud to be part of a supportive community of women who openly share their experiences of wearing human hair wigs.
Jenn Brown has been wearing our wigs for over two years. Finding human hair wigs that felt like part of her was key to her feeling confident and beautiful again. We’ve asked Jenn to compare our two most popular pieces - the Follea René wig and the Follea Style wig, to help you decide which might be the best for you.
We know the research process can be overwhelming at first, but we aim to quash the confusion, clarify the differences and simplify the wig-purchasing process. We want to set you on the wig-buying path with success and satisfaction in mind.
Jenn will highlight three important features of wigs and discuss the differences, as well as limitations, between the René and the Style. The features are:
Hair Type
Hair Length
Wig Cap
Wig Limitations
Jenn will also discuss the limitations of both wigs and will offer her suggestions on who each wig is right for.
“The Follea René is a great entry-level wig that has a lower price than the Style. It was my first choice when I started to wear hair and it fulfilled my need for a full head of thick, bouncy hair. I love playing with my look and it holds a curl that lasts and lasts!” says Jenn.
“I love the Style wig because it feels sleek, smooth, and luxurious. I can’t stop running my fingers through my hair when I’m wearing it. It’s light and easy to wear, and for me, it’s worth paying more for the realistic-looking scalp and total versatility. Being able to wear my hair up in space buns, high ponytails, and braids is a way to make my wig feel like a natural part of me.”
Feature 1: Hair type
Selecting the right wig can be life-changing. Jenn recalls her experience of trying on a Follea by Daniel Alain for the first time. “I was so amazed to see myself with a full head of hair. I never thought I’d see myself with so much hair. I had spent so long hating this one part of myself and I finally felt beautiful again. I never knew natural-looking human hair wigs existed.”
The René and the Style wigs both offer natural volume and body that will look and move like a real head of hair. They’re both available in the same 16 rich shades that range from blonde to dark brown and since both wigs are made from 100% human hair, they can be washed and styled in the same way as your bio hair. With proper care and maintenance, you can expect all Follea wigs to give you at least two years of wear, and often much more.
“I’ve been wearing and enjoying the Follea René and Follea Style for a couple of years and I’m a big fan of them both,” says Jenn. “When it comes to hair type and texture, the two wigs have their differences.”
Follea René Wig
The René wig is made from World Select Hair, which is a blend of Chinese and Indian hair. It’s soft and silky but thicker and coarser than European hair. Jenn describes the hair as “buttery soft.” The natural texture of the Chinese and Indian hair gives the René body and lift and it will hold a curl beautifully.
“I really love wearing my Follea René for the volume it gives,” asserts Jenn. “I had put up with my thin, fine hair for so long, but the René gives me the wow factor I was always longing for.”
Follea Style Wig
The Style wig is made from extremely fine European hair, which makes the wig feel lighter to wear. European hair is rare and highly prized for the making of human hair wigs. The hair has a natural sheen and movement, giving the Style wig an element of luxury. Despite having the same density as the René, the Style does not appear as full because the hair is so exquisitely fine.
“My Follea Style is sleek, silky and opulent. I almost expect a red carpet to be rolled out in front of me every time I wear it!” laughs Jenn.
Feature 2: Hair Length
“I like my wigs to be versatile and I want to get my money’s worth. I love playing around with different looks and making the wigs my own. You can play with curling tools or flat irons on all hair lengths, but if you want to wear your wig in a ponytail, you’ll need at least 12” of length to be able to tie the hair back,” Jenn explains.
Follea René Wig
The René is available in four lengths: 10”, 12”, 14”, and 16”. These lengths refer to the shortest layer on the wig. To determine the overall length of the wig, add 5” to each figure.
Follea Style Wig
The Style comes in 6 lengths: 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, 14”, and 16”. Again, to determine the length of the longest layer, add 5” to the original number.
Feature 3: Wig Cap
Follea René Wig
The cap of the René is made from Swiss lace and has a hand-tied top and machine-wefted sides. It has a lace front across the forehead to create a natural-looking hairline. The lace top allows for maximum volume and return hairs at the root, but does not give a completely natural scalp appearance. “The hand-tied top allows you to part the hair in any direction that you want. That means it’s easy to change the look when you want to.”
“I love the wefted-sides because they allow for really great air movement in the summertime,” explains Jenn. “Wigs can get hot in the summer, so it’s helpful to have a wig that helps keep your head cool.”
Follea Style Wig
The Style wig has a temple-to-temple lace front, is 100% hand-tied, and features a skin top that looks like a real scalp. “The skin top is beautiful and gives you a really realistic part line,” enthuses Jenn. The combination of the cap’s monofilament and lace lining creates a voluminous skin top and allows for lift at the root. “The cap feels softer than the René.”
“The Follea Style is 100% hand-tied, meaning that the person who made this wig tied every hair on to the cap strand by strand. This wig will give you the most realistic movement, just like your natural hair would.”
Wig Limitations
Follea René Wig
“I love my Follea René. It's one of my absolute favorite wigs and it was the first wig I got from Daniel Alain. However, the machine-wefting on the sides makes it not quite as versatile for me as the Follea Style,” says Jenn.
The machine-wefting on the René will likely be visible if you enjoy wearing high ponytails or buns, therefore this wig is best for people who prefer looser hairstyles and low ponytails.
Follea Style Wig
Due to the nature of the hair, the Style wig may not hold certain styles, such as curls, as easily as the René.
“Over the years, my confidence with wig-wearing and styling has grown. I enjoy trying different looks and I work hard to make sure my wigs are always looking their best,” says Jenn. “The hair on the Follea Style is incredibly fine and oh so beautiful, but it does take a little extra work to make sure those curls stay put.”
