Glueless Wigs From Follea by Daniel Alain – Review of the Gripper

If you’re looking for a wig for total hair loss, you may be imagining a daily battle with messy wig glues, tapes, and other adhesives to keep it in place. You may already be shuddering at the thought of irritation to your sensitive skin and the sore patches that will have you scratching, feeling uncomfortable, and miserable. On top of that, breakouts along your hairline and sticky residue that’s hard to remove, don’t make for an appealing long-term option for wig-wearing.

Here at Daniel Alain, we’ve been creating the most natural and comfortable human hair wigs for over two decades. We are leading the industry by changing the narrative surrounding wearing wigs and providing modern solutions to the problem of hair loss.

We have perfected the process of helping women find the perfect wig based on their unique experiences and hair loss journey. We’ve helped thousands of women find their dream hair and are committed to providing ongoing customer support and education, even after the purchase has been made.

If you’ve been researching the best wigs for total hair loss, you’re in the right place. We’ve asked wig-wearing aficionado and alopecia advocate, Ashley Demshki, to share an honest review of the Gripper wig from Follea by Daniel Alain.

Ashley has been wearing wigs since she was a child, after being diagnosed with alopecia at just 14 months old. If you want to know what it’s really like to wear a Gripper wig day after day, it’s best to hear it directly from a person with first-hand experience. We hope that reading her review of the Gripper will help you to decide whether or not it’s the right wig for you.

Ashley lost her hair when she was a baby, and not having hair is all she’s ever known. Wearing wigs throughout her childhood, teenage years, and adulthood, Ashley has seen it all. Growing up, the wigs she wore required adhesives and wig tape to stay in place. The adhesives would sometimes irritate the skin at the occipital, and it was common for her to have angry patches that needed to heal.

Wigs glued to her head didn’t offer much versatility from one day to the next, and Ashley ultimately wore pretty much the same color, length, and style, day in and day out, for over 20 years.

Ashley discovers human hair Gripper wig collection by Daniel Alain

Discovering the Gripper wig from Follea by Daniel Alain was a transformative moment for Ashley. Amazed at how different it was, compared to the wigs she had been wearing for the previous two decades, the Gripper wig awakened Ashley’s hankering to expect something more from her wigs. A wig that not only fulfilled her desire for comfort and security but looked completely natural and moved with the bounce of a real head of hair.

Advantages of the Gripper wig collection

Advantage #1: A cap that stays in place all day

For anyone who wears a wig, having the confidence that it will stay put all day long is very important. Peace of mind on a windy day, a summer boat trip, or during an over-enthusiastic hug is crucial, and at Daniel Alain, we don’t underestimate being able to live your wig-wearing life freely and with your whole heart. People with total hair loss often rely on tapes and adhesives to bring that freedom, but the Gripper wig can give you all that and more without glue.

And if you’re thinking that a Gripper wig needs to be so tight that it will cause pounding headaches that will have you yearning to rip it off every chance you get, think again.

”The Gripper cap is silicone-lined, so it suctions to your head. It’s suitable for so many activities from daily wear to even working out in fitness,” explains Ashley with awe.

The Gripper collection is available in two styles: the Gripper Lite and the Gripper Actif. Both styles feature a medical-grade silicone perimeter and the Gripper Actif has additional silicone at the occipital for maximum hold.

Advantage #2: A comfortable cap

“The gripper wig by Follea is honestly one of the most comfortable wigs I've ever worn because of how secure it is on my head.”

Without a comfort barrier of bio hair between the scalp and the wig cap, a wig for total hair loss must be made with comfort in mind. While it’s no secret that the key to comfort is a well-fitting cap, it’s often overlooked by brands who think that squeezing customers into a one-size-fits-all cap is the only way to go. Here at Daniel Alain, we do things differently. Ashley recommends having a thorough wig consultation and using the Daniel Alain Fit Kit service to try out a range of cap sizes. Wearing a cap for an extended period in the comfort of your home will give you a much better idea of long-term comfort than trying one on for 5 minutes and making a snap decision you later regret.

“The Gripper is something that you want to make sure you try on first because there are no adjustable straps. Once you find the right fit, it feels like a second skin,” explains Ashley enthusiastically.

Here at Daniel Alain, we carry a wide range of cap sizes to ensure you’re not squeezing into a wig that’s too small for you, or wearing a cap that’s too big and leaves excess space at the crown of your head. Our caps range from xxxs to xl, and we can help with taking measurements so you can feel confident you’re getting the most accurate and comfortable fit.

“When you're trying to find that perfect fit for your gripper cap, I would definitely recommend getting a Fit Kit from Follea by Daniel Alain. You can try on each of the sizes and know which one is going to be best for you.”

Advantage #3: Styling versatility

“Because the Gripper Lite cap is 100% hand tied, you can style it in any way you want. High ponytails, braids, and different part lines look totally natural and are easy to style.”

The Gripper Lite collection is 100% hand-tied, meaning that each hair has been tied to the cap one or two strands at a time. This is an exacting, meticulous process that takes up to two weeks to complete. But the reward? Complete styling versatility and a movement that mimics a real head of hair.

The Gripper wigs also feature a skin top that gives a natural scalp appearance along the part line.

Ashley loves being able to push the limits of wig-wearing, and like many women, enjoys changing her style from day to day. And as the mother to a toddler who keeps her on her toes,  Ashley can style her Gripper when she’s able to catch a fleetingly free moment, and it’ll be ready to go the next time she wears it.

Disadvantages of the Gripper wig collection

While Ashley doesn’t find there are many disadvantages to the Gripper wig, when pushed for her honest review, she does concede that the silicone-lined wig cap is not as breathable as lace caps. Ashley notes that while the silicone has its advantages for keeping the Gripper in place, it can feel hot, especially during the summer months.

“A silicone cap does trap the heat a little bit. If you live in a climate that reaches really high temperatures it might not be suitable for you year round.”

Is a no glue wig right for me?

If wigs for total hair loss have traditionally involved messy adhesives that leave a sticky residue, irritate the skin, and require more clean-up time than you’d care to spend, it’s time to start expecting more.

The Gripper wig isn’t right for everyone. You can’t wear a Gripper if you have bio hair, for example. If you have bio hair, whether thinning or patchy, we recommend reading more about what makes the best wig for you.

For the right person, the Gripper can transform the way they’ve been wearing wigs. From a completely natural look with beautiful flowing locks and premium hair, to a skin top that mimics the look of a real scalp. The silicone cap gives maximum security to the wearer, and the wig is comfortable enough to wear all day long.
