If you’re reading this, chances are you’re facing the challenges associated with hair loss. If you’re feeling confused, overwhelmed, and frustrated, searching for answers that seem elusive, it can be deeply distressing. You may have consulted a dermatologist or scalp specialist, hoping for a solution to your thinning hair, only to find their recommendations falling short of your expectations.

At Daniel Alain, we’ve spent over two decades crafting the world’s finest human hair wigs and toppers. But what sets us apart is not just our expertise in the industry, it’s our commitment to helping anyone who wants to buy a hairpiece to find the perfect solution, whether they ultimately purchase from us or a different brand.

Understanding all your options will allow you to make an informed decision about your hair loss journey, so we’re sharing one solution - hair toppers - that has helped countless people like you regain their confidence and sense of self.

We sat down with one of our real-life customers, Kelly, who suffers from hair loss caused by androgenetic alopecia. Due to the unpredictable nature of alopecia, Kelly’s hair loss comes and goes and she has worn a range of hairpieces from toppers to full wigs, over the past 5 years. While she prefers to wear her natural hair long, it doesn’t have the density it used to, and these days, she prefers to wear her bio hair tucked up inside a Follea wig. Before she had a wig however, Kelly wore a hair topper to provide the volume and coverage she needed.

New call-to-action

Daniel Alain: Could you tell us how you discovered hair toppers and what made them suitable for you?

Kelly: Certainly. For those unfamiliar, a hair topper is essentially a hair extension worn on the top of your head. They come in various sizes and clip onto your natural hair, resembling a real scalp. They’re available as just a small section of hair that clips on to your natural hair over the part line, to almost the width of a full wig. They offer complete versatility, allowing you to style them as you like.

In the early stages of my hair loss journey, I preferred toppers over wigs. Wearing a full wig felt intimidating, so I explored toppers through the internet and Instagram, where I found them to be a practical solution. They helped me ease into wearing alternative hair, making me more comfortable with the idea before transitioning eventually to full wigs.

Daniel Alain: Can you share your experience when you consulted a dermatologist or scalp specialist about using a topper?

Kelly: Of course. Initially, I visited a dermatologist to understand my hair thinning issue, which was diagnosed as androgenetic alopecia. Then, I sought the expertise of a scalp specialist who recommended various topical treatments and cleansing processes to stimulate hair growth. However, these methods didn't yield significant results for me. So, I inquired about toppers, hoping they might be a suitable solution. Surprisingly, the specialist discouraged me, stating that I had too much hair for toppers and that they were hard to find. I wasn't satisfied with that response, and my search eventually led me to the perfect topper that worked for me. Looking back, I hope he doesn't mislead others, as toppers were the ideal solution for my situation.

Daniel Alain: Why do you think hair toppers are not well-known or recommended by dermatologists and specialists?

Kelly: The lack of awareness among dermatologists and scalp specialists about hair toppers as a solution for women's hair loss may stem from limited exposure or promotion of this option. Many professionals are more inclined to push the products or treatments they offer, such as shampoos, oils, and supplements, which may not include toppers. I believe it's crucial for these experts to be more informed about toppers to provide valuable recommendations to women dealing with hair loss.

Daniel Alain: What are the main advantages of using a hair topper?

Kelly: One of the primary advantages of using a hair topper, as opposed to supplements or specialized shampoos, is its instant effect. While supplements can take time to show results, a topper instantly improves your appearance, often surpassing your natural hair's pre-loss look. It provides a dramatic change and immediate satisfaction.

Daniel Alain: What advice would you give to someone struggling to find answers or solutions from their dermatologist or scalp specialist?

Kelly: If you're not getting satisfactory answers or solutions from your dermatologist or scalp specialist, don't lose hope. There are customizable options in the world of hair wearing, and toppers are just one of them. While I recommend exploring the medical side of your hair loss journey, including consulting experts, to gain knowledge and rule out other issues, remember that alternatives like toppers can offer solutions that work for you. Ultimately, I found happiness and confidence in alternative hair, but the journey taught me valuable lessons even when traditional hair regrowth treatments didn't succeed.
