Buying a Human Hair Topper for Hair Loss
Hi Emily, could you walk us through how you lost your hair?
I’ve had fine, thinning hair all my life and recently suffered from hair loss due to some medical issues. My hair is thin over my whole head. I have some bald patches in the back, but I notice it more in the front, around my face. I don’t have any face-framing pieces as they all fell out due to anxiety.
Hair loss in women is much more common than we all realize, even though it’s not widely talked about. Could you tell us how it felt to lose your hair?
Losing your hair isn’t a good feeling, especially if you don’t have a lot of hair to begin with. Each strand is precious and I’ve always tried to be very protective of what little hair I do have. Losing my hair was a blow to my confidence and I didn’t feel comfortable doing the things I love.
I was very self-conscious about being in places where there were bright lights, or where people might see my thinning, fine hair. Losing your confidence and stopping doing the things you love because of your hair can really weigh on you.
Emily spent a small fortune on treatments to regrow her hair, but when the lotions, serums, shampoos, vitamins, and injections didn’t provide the promised results, she did some research and discovered The Salon at 10 Newbury in Boston, one of the country’s most prestigious hair replacement centers, and authorized Daniel Alain retailer. Through a consultation with her expert stylist, Emily was introduced to Follea human hair toppers and she was amazed at the instant transformation.
“I tried on a few toppers,” she recalls. “We figured out what length and color was a good match to my existing hair and what was the right fit for me.”
You’ve been wearing a Follea topper by Daniel Alain for a couple of years now. Can you tell us how it felt to find an alternative hair solution?
Finding a human hair topper was probably one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. As soon as I put it on, I immediately felt confident in how I look and who I was as a person. I’ve never felt more fabulous than when I have my hair on, and at this point, I don’t even recognize myself without it.
Wearing a completely natural-looking topper was a life-changing experience for Emily. As a professional figure skater and coach, it has helped her regain confidence in all aspects of her life. Whether she’s gliding across the ice, attending ballet or tap classes, or pushing herself at the gym, the topper blends seamlessly into her existing hair and allows her to look and feel her best.
Emily’s self-esteem and emotional well-being have soared, leaving her to feel empowered and in control of her hair loss. She’s proud of her hair and she doesn’t mind who knows she wears a topper.
You are very open about sharing your hair loss with others. Has it ever been difficult to tell other people you wear a topper?
Not really. I’m very confident about sharing that I wear hair toppers simply because I want other people to know about them. It often comes up naturally in conversations. Any time someone compliments me on my hair, I always share that it’s not mine and that I’m wearing a topper. When I share that I wear a hair topper, it often helps other people realize a topper might be a good option for them.
As well as a professional ice skater, you’re also a teacher. How do you talk to your students about your hair topper?
Kids notice everything so I prefer to be open with them about wearing a hair topper. Every year I read my students books about wearing wigs and hairpieces, and we talk about what it means for me to wear a hair topper. They have a lot of questions, and they’re very supportive. They love seeing the different ways I style my topper, and they love telling other people when they haven’t noticed. They’re proud of me!
What are some of the reasons why someone would be apprehensive to wear a topper?
I think one of the biggest problems someone might have about wearing a hair topper is that they’re worried about it looking fake and people knowing it’s not their real hair. However, every time I share that I’m wearing a topper, people are so surprised. My Follea hair topper is undetectable. They even ask for me to take it off to show them that it really isn’t my hair.
Thank you for your time, Emily. One last question. Would you say that wearing a hair topper has changed your life?
Wearing a hair topper has definitely changed my life and has really changed my perspective. I’m much more confident about the things I’m doing, and I’m much more confident in myself.
