Styling hair can feel intimidating, especially if it’s not something you’ve done before. If you’ve never had much hair, or you’re new to wearing wigs, the volume and length of a piece like the Follea René might feel unfamiliar. You might be wondering how to pull it into a high ponytail without exposing the wefts, or if it’s even possible to create popular styles like a bubble braid with a wefted wig.

Here’s the good news. It is possible. With the right tools, a bit of patience, and some easy-to-follow steps, you can absolutely style your Follea René into a secure and stylish bubble braid. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to pull it off with confidence.

What You’ll Need to Style Your Wig

Before you start styling, make sure you’ve got the right tools on hand. While some people prefer to style their wig while it’s on their head, most find it much easier to do the prep work on a mannequin head. This gives you better visibility and control over placement, especially helpful for updos.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A mannequin head with clamp
  • A detangling pin brush
  • Lightweight hairspray (avoid anything too heavy that could weigh the hair down)
  • Small hair elastics in a color that matches your wig
  • A mirror for final adjustments once the wig is on

Step-by-Step: Creating the Bubble Braid Look

Step 1: Prep and Create a Half-Up Ponytail

Start by brushing through the hair with your detangling brush to remove any knots or tangles. Then, separate the top section of hair as if you’re going to create a half-up, half-down hairstyle. Use your fingers to gently pull a few wispy pieces loose around the face as this helps soften the hairline and gives a more natural look. Secure the top section with a small elastic.

Step 2: Create a Full Ponytail (While Hiding the Wefts)

Now gather the bottom section of the hair and gently brush or finger-comb it upwards, joining it with the top section. As you do this, make sure you’re covering any visible wefts by layering the hair strategically. Tie all the hair together at the crown of the head with another elastic. At this point, you should have a high ponytail with the wefts safely hidden underneath.

Step 3: Start Your Bubble Braid

A few inches below your main ponytail elastic, add another small hair elastic. Then, gently tug and fluff the section of hair between the two elastics to create a rounded ‘bubble’ effect.

Step 4: Continue the Bubbles

Repeat the process by adding another elastic a few inches below the last one and ruching the section in between to form a bubble. Keep going down the length of the ponytail, spacing the elastics evenly, until you run out of hair.

Step 5: Final Touches

Spritz the style lightly with hairspray to hold it in place. Check that the face-framing pieces are sitting where you want them, and that the ponytail looks neat and evenly bubbled.
